The crew met at Fuddruckers for the bi-annual birthday meeting this Monday. The crew members and their families were able to catch up and enjoy a good burger with unlimited fries!!!
Mentoring for Venturing
Jean-Baptiste led the crew through the Mentoring for Venturing training this past Saturday. Over the course of the session the crew learned a little more about what mentoring is, how to mentor, how to be mentored and how to use these valuable skills both in scouting and elsewhere.
Winter Camping 2019
January 12th to 14th:
The crew arrived at Camp Glen Gray Friday night and settled in to the cabin. After starting their fires and eating their dinners a round of cards ensued followed by bedtime. During the night a watch was set to make sure the fires stayed lit and kept the cabin warm. Unfortunately, some did not wake as they should have and the fires had to be relit.
On Saturday the crew enjoyed a breakfast of crêpes and prepared for the day ahead. Outside of stocking up on wood the crew went on a hike to nearby Boy Scout Camp Yaw Paw, on the way we were blessed with some beautiful sights! After a lunch in the outdoor dining hall there, we headed back to Price Cabin in Camp Glen Gray and made dinner. Following an evening of board games and fried deserts courtesy of Matthew Courtright, we turned in.
The second fire watch also had some issues in the waking department, with some turning in before making sure their replacements were up. That being said Pauline, Bella, Tyler, Matt. C., Jean-Baptiste, Mackenzie, John S. and Evan accompanied by Nora, Matt, Mr. Brown, Mrs. Rogacki and Mrs. Brown had great fun and seem ready to do it again!
Lenape Trail Hike June 2018
On June 9th 2018, two members of our crew participated in a Lenape Trail Hike. Although crews, troops, and packs had been called to hike the entire 34 miles in one day (and some courageous souls achieved this), our adventurous representatives were slightly more conservative and only hiked a small portion of the trail.
The hike started, for us, at Yantacaw Park and finished at Applegate Farm with a delicious ice cream. Along the way we enjoyed many delightful parks, and Jean-Baptiste even found a National Geographic Folio at a garage sale on the way. Everyone had a wonderful day of it, and both youths (Tim and Jean-Baptiste) want to thank the adults who accompanied them.

Escape the Room March 2018
The venture crew spent their weekly meeting at Empire Escape Rooms on March 5th. There we were instructed by an alumnus of our crew, Elena, on the protocol and proper use of an Escape the Room location. Once unleashed in the room the crew – represented by Mackenzie, Ashna, Tim, Jean-Baptiste, Andrew, and John – proceeded to tear it apart in an effort to find clues and tips on how to solve the different challenges.
Although we were ultimately unable to Escape the Room, we were truly within seconds of finding our way out. Overall it seems that everyone enjoyed their time, even if some of our members were disappointed with the break in their win streak.
As a crew, this event serves as a reminder of what we can manage to accomplish if we work as a team and just how much fun we can have. We remain grateful to the adults for accompanying us and enjoying our mad dashes via the cameras. This is hopefully not the last of many fun ‘Activity’ meetings our crew will hold and take part in.
Winter Camping at Nobebosco, January 2018
This January, from the 5th to the 7th, the Crew attended a weekend of winter camping at Nobebosco. Tho we had reserved a cabin at Camp Glen Gray for the weekend, the forecast proclaiming a “Cyclonic Bomb” we decided to choose a cabin with a more reliable heating system.
Arriving Friday night, the Crew set up and sat down for a round of board games. Included in the mix was Spit, Go Fish, and Munchkin. Having eaten before getting there we aimed for an early night and called it around midnight.
Waking on Saturday around 9, Isabella, Mackenzie, and myself under the guidance of Kate proceeded to reheat the crepes. And to everyone’s delight and joy, Nutella and whipped cream was in abundance! Using these liberally, the crew (both adults and youth alike) enjoyed their breakfast and left nothing for later.
Afterwards we headed off for a hike following the Yellow Trail around camp, and enjoyed the snow-covered grounds as well as the shanties and other songs. Having looped back from the A Field to the Range, a contingent of the crew went down to Sand Pond and observed the frozen expanse. Having observed, from a safe distance, the solidity of the ice we returned to the cabin as much to eat lunch as to find warmth.
On the menu for lunch was a platter of grilled cheese sandwiches that required some longer cooking for some… Accompanying the grilled cheese sandwiches was a chicken noodle soup cooked in a crock pot, thus limiting the amount of time spent outside and in the cold. The lunch was provided by Tim, John, and Andrew under the guidance of Kate.
The program for the afternoon mainly consisted of debates about the merits of the latest Star Wars movie, the never-ending arguments between Andrew and Jean-Baptiste, and another round of Board Games. This time Jean-Baptiste did not win the Munchkin game, since it became increasingly impossible for monsters to be fought… But added to the afore-mentioned mix of games was B.S. A game of great dexterity and skill, which tested our ability to convince each other of what cards we actually held in our hands.
That evening, dinner was a chilly prepared by Isabella and heated up in the crock pots by Mackenzie, Isabella, and myself under the guidance of Kate. After this tasty dinner, we proceeded to return to our board game soirée. We ended the day on this high note of fellowship and cutthroat card play.
The following morning, while I had to leave early, the crew cleaned up and after a hearty bagel breakfast left camp.
Shooting Night
Hello Everybody,
No shooting Heather, guys. She gets sensitive about these things.
As a crew we will be going shooting on Monday, July 6th at the Guns for Hire range in Woodland Park(address is listed below). We will be shooting in the 50 yard rage from 7-9 PM, and we will have the option to shoot an assortment of firearms, both rifles and pistols (no shotguns).
There should not be a fee for the range and the gun rentals, however, we will have to pay for ammo. As of right now there is no set amount for how much the ammo will cost because the prices vary for different types of guns and different calibers. You will most likely spend an average of $15-$20 on ammo but it wouldn’t hurt to bring a little extra.
In order to be able to shoot a waiver needs to be filled out and it MUST be done on their premises. All minors must bring a parent or guardian with them while checking in to sign the waiver on their behalf. If you have gone shooting here before you will already have the paperwork filled out, however if you are not sure it would be wise to bring a guardian. Please arrive at the range around 6:30 PM with your guardian to allow time to complete waivers, have ID photos taken, and to do a quick safety check before shooting. Also, everyone should bring an ID with them, either a driver’s license or a school ID.
Also, please know that this is a Crew event and that parents and siblings that aren’t in the Crew will not be permitted to shoot in order to leave as much time as possible for the Crew to shoot.
Everyone MUST wear closed-toed shoes. Also, ladies should not wear any low-cut shirts because there is a chance that a hot bullet can fly down the shirt.
Thank you,
Heather
